Mission
CCLA's mission is to provide service and leadership in statewide automated
library and information resources to enhance the educational experience
at Florida's community colleges. This mission is accomplished by providing
access to shared information resources; ensuring effective use of technology
through training, support, and consultation; researching and implementing
suitable new technologies; and providing library advocacy for issues of
concern to community college libraries.
CCLA
Established in 1989 by the Florida Legislature, CCLA operates Florida's Library Information Network for Community Colleges
(LINCC) and the Web-based library information portal, LINCCWeb, from its headquarters in
Tallahassee, Florida. A program of Florida's Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education, CCLA is considered a model library
services organization, operating the first statewide, centralized automated library system in the U.S.
serving community colleges exclusively.
CCLA's presence in the library information marketplace continues to grow, gaining regional and national
recognition for the breadth and effectiveness of its programs and services, and for the ongoing success enjoyed by
the LINCC network.
Programs and Services
CCLA provides a comprehensive suite of library information products and full-service programs that support
Florida's community college libraries.
LINCCWeb
A full-featured, user-friendly community college library information portal, LINCCWeb offers reliable, convenient access to information-rich,
full-text databases, e-books, and the library holdings of Florida's community colleges and public
universities. LINCCWeb users can also search the collections of public libraries representing Florida's
major metropolitan areas, request library materials online, and manage their personal library accounts. Online
at: www.linccweb.org.
- Library Management System (LMS)
A powerful, flexible, state-of-the-art system, LINCC's LMS operates behind the scenes at community
college libraries to provide library staff with automated tools that streamline delivery of library
services to students and increase library staff productivity. Ex Libris' Aleph software serves as
the foundation software for LINCC's library management system.
Education and Training: LINCCLearn
Since its inception, CCLA has stood at the forefront of library staff education. CCLA's comprehensive user education
program, LINCCLearn, combines instructor-led training with self-paced, online instruction to ensure library staff
have the knowlege and skills needed to provide first-rate information services to their students and faculties. Topics
range from practical use of LINCC library management tools such as acquisitions, circulation, and technical services,
to the use of LINCC statistics for organizational and fiscal planning. For more information,
visit our LINCCLearn Web page.
- Consultation services
CCLA provides professional on-site consultative services to libraries at each of the state's 28 community colleges.
Consultations are tailored to the unique atmosphere of each library and serve as a conduit between library staff
and CCLA where specific needs can be addressed and collaborative solutions identified. Each topic is focused on helping
libraries provide better service to their students.
- User Support
CCLA's full-time customer service support staff is available during all hours of library operation to assist librarians
with using CCLA and LINCC products and services. As frontline experts on LINCC, CCLA's Service Desk personnel provide an
all-important human element that Florida's community college libraries have trusted for more than a decade to quickly and
professionally respond to their needs. CCLA utilizes sophisiticated call tracking software to ensure that all services calls are
accounted for and resolved in a timely manner.
Development of New Services
CCLA continues to develop and deliver value-added library management tools such as online reports, inventory and
collection software, and document delivery software to assist libraries in providing services to their students and
to help them keep pace with the changing face of the technology and information marketplace.
Leadership
CCLA plays an increasingly active leadership role, representing the interests of community colleges and LINCC at all
levels of institutional decision-making. Representatives from CCLA participate in meetings of decision- and policy-making
bodies within the larger Community College System, including the Division of Community Colleges and Workforce Education's Executive
Leadership Team, and the Community Colleges' Information Technology Committee and Council of Business
Affairs.
Members of CCLA's staff regularly participate in national-, state- and local-level professional events that lend support
to the interests of Florida's community college libraries and their resources.
Advisory Board and Executive Committee Organization
In order to ensure coordination of service, the legislature
created a CCLA Advisory Board
which "...shall meet annually to review
the progress made toward automating the community college system...and
to select members for a smaller executive committee..." The Advisory
Board has adopted an organizational document for
purposes of self-governance.
